Actress Zainab Bakare has responded to online criticism over her reaction at the service of songs held in honour of her late colleague Allwell Ademola.
Videos from the memorial event, which took place on Thursday, circulated on social media, drawing comments from some users who accused Bakare of exaggerating her emotions and acting for the camera.
Reacting on her Instagram page, Bakare rejected the claims and said the comments were inappropriate at a time when colleagues and family members were mourning Ademola’s death.
“Y’all coming for me and tagging me with your full chest that I was acting for the camera… I will hold till we bury her before I give you a taste of your medicine,” she wrote.
Bakare said the remarks amounted to an exploitation of a moment of loss and questioned why people would use the death of a colleague to attack others.
“Koni da fun yin!!! Y’all are using the death of a loved one to dish out your oriburuku. We shall see!!!” she added.
Allwell Ademola was buried on Friday, January 9, at Atan Cemetery, Yaba, Lagos State.
The burial was attended by family members, friends and colleagues from the film industry.
Bakare was present at the burial and other related events alongside several actors and actresses.
Zainab Bakare had a working relationship with the late actress.
She appeared in Ademola’s 2017 film False Flag and also co-starred with her in Yoruba-language films, including Odere Mi and Kikioré, released on YouTube platforms.
Allwell Ademola died on December 27, 2025, at the age of 49.
Colleagues have continued to hold memorial activities in her honour following her death.
