You’re very disrespectful, Yul Edochie calls out Rufai Oseni on live TV conduct

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie

Actor Yul Edochie has criticised Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni over what he described as disrespectful conduct towards guests on national television.

In a video shared on social media on Wednesday, Yul questioned Oseni’s approach to interviewing and referenced a past incident involving the journalist and Lagos traffic officials.

“Is this not the same Rufai Oseni that was caught driving on BRT lane? When officials caught you, instead of apologising, you were shouting, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m going to call the governor of Lagos State.’ If not because somebody had a video, you could not even apologise. If there was no video, what would have happened?” he said.

The actor also faulted Oseni’s style of engagement with guests during interviews.

“How can you invite somebody and make the guest uncomfortable? If a guest is not comfortable, the first thing you do is apologise and make the guest feel at ease. How can you tell a guest that if they’re not comfortable, they are free to walk out of the studio? You are insulting people on national TV. You’re a very disrespectful person. That is not journalism,” he said.

The comments add to previous criticism Yul has directed at Oseni. In 2023, he described the broadcaster as disrespectful following a tense exchange between Oseni and a political guest on air.

Oseni, a presenter with Arise Television, has faced public debate in the past over his interviewing style, particularly during political discussions. He has also previously addressed controversies surrounding his conduct.

There has been no immediate response from Oseni or Arise Television regarding Yul’s latest remarks.
