A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress Ibrahim Osinowo has criticised presidential aide Daniel Bwala over his recent comments.

Mr. Osinowo said Mr. Bwala does not speak for the government of President Bola Tinubu.

He made the remarks during an interview on News Central Television on Monday.

According to him, the official spokesperson for the president is Bayo Onanuga, who serves as special adviser on information and strategy.

He said government communication should come through spokesperson Onanuga or other officials such as Sunday Dare.

“Bayo Onanuga is the spokesperson of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Daniel is not the spokesperson; he is a policy person. Those policies are still meant to be signed off by Bayo Onanuga,” Osinowo said.

He also said Nigerians who want a position in the government should rely on recognised communication channels.

“If you need anything about the APC government, you talk to Bayo Onanuga or Sunday Dare. These are the people in charge of public communication who convey the stand of the government to Nigerians not Daniel,” he said.

Osinowo also criticised Bwala’s recent trip to the United Kingdom.

“Daniel does not go to the United Kingdom to discuss. He just went there to renew his image, which many people see as that of a staunch liar and image destroyer,” he said.

He further claimed that Bwala had in the past made statements about Tinubu which he described as false.

The comments come amid reactions to Bwala’s appearance on Head to Head on Al Jazeera hosted by Mehdi Hasan.

During the programme, Mr. Hasan referred to past statements Daniel Bwala made about Tinubu before joining the administration. Bwala denied making the comments.

Clips from the interview circulated on social media and drew reactions from some Nigerians.

Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson to Atiku Abubakar, also commented on the interview.

In a post on X, Showunmi said the programme was “an attempted public ambush.”

Media personality Babajide Otitoju also reacted during a programme on TVC News, saying Bwala appeared unprepared for the interview.
