Singer Crayon has stirred controversy after launching a series of posts on X on Sunday evening in which he criticised the leadership of Mavin Records.
In several tweets, the 28-year-old, mentioned Mavin founder Don Jazzy and the label’s chief operating officer Tega Oghenejobo.
Crayon wrote, “Don jazzy na my boy!!!!!! Una dey maddddd!!?? Shayennnnn sharayyyyyy333,” before directing criticism at the executive, adding “Tega highest criminal!!!!!!!!!”
The Lagos born artiste, who was signed to Blowtime Entertainment, an imprint of Mavin Records, in May 2019, also declared, “Mavin is going down!!!!!!” He then took aim at label mate Rema, writing, “Rema for the next 100 years no feature. You stole my star from me. Yeah I took tha shiiiiii backkkkk hoeeeeerrrr!!!!! Snakkkkkkkeeeeeesssssssss”.
It remains unclear what prompted the posts or whether the singer’s account was compromised. Crayon has been active on Instagram but has not suggested that his X account was hacked.
The singer also hinted at a possible exit from the label. He shared details for a new outfit called Olodum Entertainment and promoted a booking email.
His newly released song ‘Baami’ appears to be hosted under the Olodum Entertainment imprint and carries no visible Mavin branding. In another post, he called for creative designs for the new label, writing, “Any weird creatives that can come with OLODUM ENT FLAGGSSSSS!!!! Gets 500M million naira cash !!!!! With love WARAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!”
Crayon rose to prominence after signing to Mavin Records in 2019 through producer Baby Fresh’s Blowtime Entertainment imprint. He has since released projects including the EPs ‘Cray Cray’ and ‘Twelve A.M’ as well as his debut album Trench to Triumph.
Founded in 2012 by Don Jazzy after the end of Mo’ Hits Records, Mavin Records is home to artistes such as Rema, Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille and Ladipoe.
Mavin Records and its executives have yet to respond to the outburst.
