Yemi Remi clears air on controversial stories about brother Chief Kanran

Actor Yemi Remi has alleged that his late younger brother, Segun Remi, widely known as Chief Kanran, misled the public with several exaggerated stories before his death.

Speaking on Agbaletu TV, Yemi said many of Kanran’s public pleas for help were based on false claims.

“There was a time a woman called me to mourn my younger brother’s wife’s death and I told her I didn’t know anything about it,” he said. “She said he sent her an obituary, but I told her it was a lie.”

He also dismissed Kanran’s claim that his house was burnt, explaining that only a wooden staircase outside the building was affected and the fire did not touch his apartment.

Yemi further accused his brother of misrepresenting details about his personal life, including the number and circumstances of his children. He added that Kanran also inflated his age.
“He told some people he was 75… I will be 70 next year. He was 62 — he was born in 1963,” he said.

The actor also clarified that Kanran was not ill before his death.
“He wasn’t sick. The Friday before he died, he went for a church programme and people said he danced so well,” he said.

“It was that Friday that they called me to say that he had died… They told me that he slumped in the bathroom. Before they could get to the hospital, he had died.”

Chief Kanran died on August 15, and was buried on September 12 at Beckley Estate, Abule Egba, Lagos.

His funeral sparked criticism from actor Yemi Solade, who lamented the poor turnout of Nollywood stars, saying, “As long as one is not materially blessed, one is a nobody in Nigeria.”
