Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has donated N10 million to the families of victims involved in the recent Easter rally accident.
The donation was made on Wednesday in Billiri during the governor’s condolence visit to the Tangale Chiefdom.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tragic accident, which occurred on Monday during the Easter rally, claimed the lives of five individuals and left many others injured.
While reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting the affected families, Yahaya said each bereaved family would receive N2 million to assist with burial arrangements.
The governor also assured that the incident would be thoroughly investigated to prevent recurrence.
Responding to the gesture, Alhaji Danladi Maiyamba, the paramount ruler of Tangale, thanked the governor for the visit and financial support.
He commended Yahaya’s effort in addressing the community’s concerns.
In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Egla Idris, the chairperson of Billiri Local Government Area, also thanked the governor for standing by them in their time of grief.
She said, “Your visit is a clear indication that you have the people of Billiri at heart, and we are grateful.”
