An X user has apologised after sharing a false claim about the daughter of singers Adekunle Gold and Simi.
The claim circulated online after the user shared a post on X on Sunday claiming that their daughter, Deja, had died at the age of six from a rare illness known as Canavan disease.
The post quickly drew reactions and backlash from social media users who pointed out that the information was false.
Reacting to the backlash he received over the false report, he wrote on Monday, “I want to offer my deepest and most sincere apologies to Adekunle Gold. The screenshot I shared was something I came across on Facebook, and at the time, I genuinely believed it was real. I had no idea it was false or fabricated. I deeply regret posting it and for any confusion, hurt, or misinformation it may have caused. I take full responsibility for not verifying it first. I’m truly sorry, and I hope you can forgive me for this mistake.”
Adekunle, who is married to singer Simi, welcomed their daughter Deja in May 2020. The couple are known to keep details about their child largely private while occasionally sharing family moments online.
