Freestyle wrestling champion Odunayo Adekuoroye has announced the birth of her first child with husband Oladimeji Iyanda.

The 31-year-old made the announcement on her Instagram page on Wednesday, sharing maternity photos to mark the joyous occasion.

“Dear friends and fans,” she wrote in the caption, “with immense joy, your favorite Champion is thrilled to announce that I’ve embarked on the beautiful journey of motherhood.

“Our precious baby made a grand and royal arrival filling our hearts with boundless love and joy. Embracing this new role has been a profound experience, and I’m deeply grateful for the overwhelming divine support.

“We are grateful to GOD for the bundle of Joy. As we navigate this cherished chapter, please keep us in your thoughts and share in our happiness.”

Adekuoroye, one of Nigeria’s most decorated wrestlers, got married to her longtime partner in a quiet but elegant ceremony held in Akure, Ondo State, shortly after her gold medal win at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The wedding, which featured both traditional and church rites, marked a new phase for the athlete, who had kept her relationship largely private until the celebration.

Her victory in the women’s freestyle 57kg event in Birmingham had come just weeks before the marriage, a win she dedicated to God and her supporters.
