Wizkid becomes first African artist to surpass 10 Billion Spotify Streams

Singer Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has become the first African artist to surpass ten billion streams on the global music platform Spotify.

The milestone was achieved as streams across all his credits on the platform recently hit the 10 billion mark.

His collaborative song with Canadian rapper Drake and South African Tyla singer is his most streamed track, accumulating nearly 4 billion streams.

Wizkid’s third studio album, Made In Lagos Deluxe, is his most streamed project on Spotify with over a billion streams.

As a lead artist, his song “Essence” featuring Tems has recorded over 333 million streams.

According to Spotify data, Wizkid leads African artists in global streams, ahead of Burna Boy with 9.5 billion, Rema with 5.6 billion, Tems with 4.4 billion and Tyla with 3.6 billion.

His catalogue includes collaborations with international artists like Beyoncé and Chris Brown.

The achievement reflects the global rise of Afrobeats and the shift from traditional music formats to digital streaming.

In related streaming news, American singer Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” recently surpassed Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” as the most streamed solo song by a female artist on Spotify, reaching 3.37 billion streams.

Wizkid’s career milestone comes after a decade of music releases, marking him as a leading figure in Afrobeats on the global stage.
