Wizkid, Ayra Starr headline Nigerian wins at MOBO Awards

Music stars Wizkid and Ayra Starr were among the winners at the 2026 MOBO Awards held in Manchester, United Kingdom.

Wizkid won the Best African Music Act award, beating fellow Nigerians Davido, Rema, Shallipopi, Tiwa Savage and Adekunle Gold.

Ayra Starr claimed the Best International Act prize ahead of global stars including Cardi B, Gunna and Kehlani.

British-Nigerian media personality Niko Omilana also emerged winner of the Best Media Personality category.

The ceremony, held in Manchester, marked the first time the awards took place in the city, celebrating Black music and culture with artistes across different genres recognised.

Other winners included Olivia Dean, who took home Best Female Act, Album of the Year and Song of the Year, and Jim Legxacy, who won Best Male Act.

In other categories, Raye won Video of the Year, Flo picked up Best R&B/Soul Act, while Ezra Collective won Best Jazz Act.

Ayra Starr’s win adds to her growing international recognition, coming after a strong year that has seen her continue to expand her presence beyond Africa.

The MOBO Awards, established to honour music of Black origin, recognise achievements across genres such as hip hop, R&B, soul, reggae, jazz and African music.
