Wike receives remains of Senator Barinada Mpigi in Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike on Monday received the remains of Senator Barinada Mpigi at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Senator Mpigi represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

According to a statement by Minister Wike’s media aide Lere Olayinka, the minister arrived at the airport at about 5:30 a.m. alongside political associates to receive the body of the late lawmaker.

“The Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, morning received the remains of the Senator representing Rivers South-East Barinada Mpigi at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja,” the statement reads.

The Minister,  who arrived the airport at about 5:30am, with other dignitaries, also received wife of the late senator,  Patricia Obiageri Mpigi and his children.

The senator’s wife Patricia Mpigi and their children accompanied the remains to Nigeria.

Those present at the airport included Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party Mao Ohuabunwa, Senators Philip Aduda, Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh and Olaka Nwogu, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda, Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Desmond Akawor and APC National Vice Chairman (South-South) Victor Giadom, among others.

Mpigi died in London on February 19, at the age of 64.

Last week Thursday, Wike travelled to London, where he met with the senator’s wife and children to commiserate with them.

During the visit, he also made arrangements for the return of the remains to Nigeria for burial rites.
