Why we renovated Buhari’s graveyard – Family

A family member of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why the graveyard where he was buried in Daura now has a new look.

Pictures recently circulated online showed changes at the burial site, which is located within Buhari’s residence.

The images surfaced on Sunday during the visit of Katsina State governor, Dikko Radda, who offered prayers at the site.

Speaking on the development, Hamisu Haro, who oversees the late former president’s household, said the fencing around the graveyard was carried out for security reasons.

“Considering the time we are in, we felt that there is a need to fence the graveyard, keep it secure, so that whosoever comes to visit would stay out there and offer their prayers, just like what people saw during Governor Radda’s visit recently,” Mr Haro said.

He added that religious teachings were taken into account before the work was carried out.

According to him, there was an earlier incident where individuals laid flowers at the grave, a practice he said contradicts Islamic teachings.

The flowers were later removed.

Haro also noted that a concrete floor and pavement were added to help prevent erosion caused by rainwater.

He stressed that the grave itself had not been altered.

During his recent visit, governor Radda prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for Buhari, for the acceptance of his good deeds and for his admittance into Aljannatul Firdaus.

He also joined prayers for continued peace and unity in Katsina and Nigeria.

Muhammadu Buhari was president from 2015 to 2023.

He died in July and was buried in accordance with Islamic rites at his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.
