The Presidency has explained why President Bola Tinubu did not attend the inauguration of projects in Lagos on Wednesday despite being in the state.
Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication Sunday Dare stated that the president was preoccupied with state matters and was receiving security briefings.
Mr Dare spoke during an interview on Channels Television, confirming that President Tinubu was in Lagos.
“President Tinubu is in Lagos. Beyond the pictures, the president has been very busy with state matters,” he said.
He said the president had been taking briefings from the intelligence community, especially following developments in Jos.
“In the last 10 days, right from the developments in Jos, the president has been busy taking constant briefs, and he has to prioritise when it comes to state matters, especially security,” Dare said.
“He is in Lagos monitoring the development, working with the intelligence community, and taking constant security briefs.”
Tinubu was expected to inaugurate projects including the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge and the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle.
However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio represented him at the event, where he inaugurated the Ojora-Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos Geographic Information Service building and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the projects are aimed at improving mobility, land administration and public service delivery in the state.
The Lagos State Government had earlier announced road closures ahead of the inauguration.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos on April 2 after visiting Plateau State over the killings in Jos.
He also travelled to Ogun State on April 4, where he inaugurated the Gateway Cargo Airport and a Nigeria Customs Service hub before returning to Lagos the same day.
