Actor Ganiu Nafiu popularly known as Alapini Osa has called for President Bola Tinubu to be allowed a third term in office, saying it would help address Nigeria’s long-standing problems.
In a viral interview with his colleague Kunle Afod on Wednesday, Alapini Osa, known for films like Apesin, Eegun, Aiye and Koto Aye, said Nigerians should be patient with the President and give him time to implement his plans.
Speaking in Yoruba, he said: “If God did not have a purpose for Nigeria through him, He would not have made him president. I believe he was sent to accomplish something, and he is already working towards it… If all the country’s problems were to be resolved, Tinubu should be allowed to serve a third term.”
Alapini Osa described governance at the Presidential Villa as “a forest filled with lions, tigers and cobras,” suggesting that powerful interests have sometimes undermined the President’s efforts. He said the administration has adopted new strategies to tackle insecurity and urged Nigerians to offer constructive feedback rather than only criticism.
He also commended the roles of the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu and the First Lady in national affairs, noting that their contributions complement the President’s work.
The actor further suggested that, if all the country’s problems were to be resolved, Mr Tinubu should be allowed to serve a third term.
He urged Nigerians to provide constructive feedback to draw the President’s attention to issues, rather than resorting to mere criticism.
He added: “Although I know that a third term is not possible, let him complete his eight years first, and we will see the outcome. I strongly believe that Nigerians will smile by the end of those eight years.”
Alapini had earlier expressed regret for campaigning for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.
In June 2025, he said the support many Nollywood actors gave the president had not brought benefits, recalling how colleagues campaigned with passion.
