Why Tinubu embarked on state visit to UK – Daniel Bwala

Daniel Bwala, special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on media and policy communication, has explained reasons for the president’s visit to the United Kingdom.

President Tinubu visited the UK for two days, where he met King Charles III and held talks with Keir Starmer.

The visit drew criticism from some opposition figures who questioned its relevance.

In a social media post on Friday, Mr Bwala said the trip was aimed at opening opportunities for Nigeria.

“Some people are saying, ‘Why go to the UK?’ Look, I hope you all know that you don’t grow and develop Nigeria by sitting at home and waiting,” he wrote.

“This visit is about opening doors: more investment, more jobs, and more opportunities for our people.”

He added that the visit would help position Nigeria in global discussions.

“President Tinubu is making sure Nigeria is seen, heard, and respected on the world stage. That’s how you move a country forward,” Daniel Bwala said.

During the visit, Nigeria and the UK agreed on a deal valued at £746 million to support the refurbishment of two ports in Lagos.

Tinubu and his wife Oluremi Tinubu were hosted at Windsor Castle by the King and Queen Camilla.

The president said the visit would strengthen relations between both countries.

After the trip, Tinubu returned to Lagos ahead of Eid-el-Fitr.

He joined the Muslim faithful for prayers at the Dodan Barracks prayer ground.
