Associate senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church Tolu Odukoya has said she is not trying to take the place of her parents Bimbo Odukoya and Taiwo Odukoya.
She spoke during a conversation on the Dear Ife series shared on YouTube.
Responding to a question about living up to her parents’ legacy, she said, “Those shoes, my feet are not inside. The shoes are admired.”
She said she values her parents’ legacy but does not see it as something she must take on.
Pastor Odukoya said she sees her background as a foundation that comes with responsibility.
According to her, the standard set by her parents leaves little room for excuses.
“If you now come and put one rug on it and the rug is dirty, it’s on you,” she said.
She also spoke about the expectations placed on her as a first child, saying the role comes with responsibilities she did not choose.
“The office has so much responsibility and I did not want it,” she said.
Odukoya added that her upbringing shaped her path, recalling how her mother spoke about her future before she was born.
“She’ll put her hand on her stomach and say: ‘This one is going to sing,’” she said.
She said she later understood it as her mother expressing belief in her future.
Tolu Odukoya said her journey is about making her own choices while acknowledging her background.
