Actress Nkechi Blessing has opened up on why she took a break from Nollywood.
Speaking during an episode of the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast hosted by Isbae U, Nkechi said she stepped away from acting after someone anonymously began paying her a weekly salary of N1 million.
“Somebody anonymously placed me on a one million naira weekly salary,” she said. “I just felt there was no point stressing. Even the movies I acted in didn’t make up to one million. Some movies don’t generate one million after the whole production.”
When the host asked who the person was, Nkechi replied, “It’s not your business.”
The actress explained that the offer came at a time when she was already frustrated with the film industry due to poor pay. She said many of the projects she featured in failed to yield enough financial returns, despite the time and energy she invested.
Her revelation has sparked conversations online, with many social media users questioning the state of compensation in Nollywood. Others commended the unnamed sponsor for supporting her during a difficult time.
Nkechi Blessing is known for her roles in Yoruba and English-language films. She gained widespread recognition for her performance in Omoge Lekki, a film produced by Mercy Aigbe. Beyond acting, she is known for her vibrant personality on social media and her history of controversial public statements.
The actress was previously in a relationship with politician Opeyemi Falegan. The relationship ended in 2022, with both parties exchanging words on social media following the breakup.
