Why I stepped back from music – Naeto C

Rapper Naeto C has spoken about his decision to step back from active music and shared plans to release new material in the coming year.

In an interview, Naeto C said his break from music was a personal decision shaped largely by family priorities and long term life goals. He explained that getting married in 2012 and becoming a father a year later made him reassess how he wanted to structure his future.

“I think I wanted something different when I thought about my future and the kind of life I wanted. I got married in 2012, I had my first child in 2013 so looking back at it I don’t really think I would get the kind of life I wanted if I continued to focus on music,” he said.

Naeto C added that his early involvement in music was driven mainly by passion rather than a clear plan for fame or commercial success. He said his journey into entertainment happened gradually and was shaped by genuine interest in the art.

The rapper also revealed that although he had intended to release new music this year, those plans did not materialise due to unforeseen personal circumstances. He said he is now working towards putting out new material in the coming year.

Naeto C emerged in the mid 2000s and became one of the leading figures in Nigerian hip hop, with songs such as ‘Ten Over Ten’ helping to shape the sound of the era. Beyond his commercial success, he is widely credited with influencing a new generation of Nigerian rappers.
