Actor Olaniyi Afonja, popularly known as Sanyeri, has spoken about his regret over not advancing his education earlier in life.
Sanyeri made the disclosure during an appearance on the television programme Behind The Fame, where he reflected on his childhood, career and personal growth.
He said, “When children are in school, they think education is for their parents, not realizing it is for their own future. Back then, it felt like punishment.”
Sanyeri explained that he did not understand the importance of formal education while growing up. According to him, his perspective has changed with age and experience.
“I regret not furthering my education. I have taken steps to continue, and when the result comes out, I will show it,” he said. “Nowadays, education has no age limit.”
The actor, who is known for his comic roles in Yoruba films, has spent over three decades in the movie industry. Though widely recognised for comedy, he has previously stated that he did not begin his career as a comic actor.
In the interview, he also mentioned individuals who influenced his early journey in acting, including the late Prince Adeoye and Hakeem Ajala.
Sanyeri also explained how he adopted his stage name. He said the name originally belonged to another performer and became associated with him after he stepped in to play a role when the original actor fell ill.
