Why I refuse to be called a single mother – Diiadem

Reality TV star Adeola Adeyemi, popularly known as Diiadem, has explained why she does not refer to herself as a single mother despite largely raising her daughter on her own.

Speaking on the Diary of a Naija Girl podcast, the Real Housewives of Lagos season 3 cast member said she prefers the term “single parent” because she did not cut her child’s father out of her daughter’s life.

“I won’t say I am a single mother. I would just say I am a single parent because I did not stop my baby’s dad from being in her life,” she said.

Diiadem added that her daughter’s father reached out after a long absence, and she welcomed the reconnection for her child’s sake. She said people around her questioned the decision, but she saw the positive impact on her daughter.

“Even the guy I was seeing at the time was like, ‘Are you okay? This guy just left you guys.’ But at the end of the day, that’s her dad. What can we do? I saw the joy and happiness he brought to my child. So, it is actually not the same,” she explained.

She said financial support alone is not enough, emphasizing the importance of a father’s emotional presence.

“To be very honest, the position of a man would still be there. You can’t do it all. Even though you have the money… that emotional presence is needed for the child,” she said.

Diiadem previously revealed she left her relationship with her child’s father after incidents of domestic abuse while pregnant. She and her ex-husband, Odekunle, had a traditional wedding in 2017 and welcomed their daughter before the relationship ended.

The reality TV star has continued to grow her beauty brand and remains active online.
