Why I don’t like road trips – Shaffy Bello

Actress Shaffy Bello has explained why she avoids travelling by road in Nigeria, saying long journeys make her uncomfortable and she prefers other options.

Speaking during an interview with media personality VJ Adams, the actress said she limits road travel to short distances and rarely goes beyond Ibadan when moving by car from Lagos.

“I can fly, I can do water, but I don’t like road trips. Road trips are not my thing, I don’t like them,” she said.

Shaffy explained that her preference is not about convenience but personal comfort. She noted that while she can enjoy road trips outside Nigeria, the experience is different for her at home.

She added that she would only consider a longer road journey if there was strong personal motivation. “Only if there is a motivation, if the person is extremely dear to me, and everybody knows me now. They go, ‘don’t invite her because she won’t come’. Once it’s farther than Ibadan, count me out,” she said.

The actress also admitted that her stance has affected her social engagements, as friends and associates now rarely invite her to events that would require long road travel.

Shaffy, who spent part of her early life in the United States, returned to Nigeria and built a successful career in film and television. She first gained public attention in the late 1990s with her vocal feature on Seyi Sodimu’s hit song Love Me Jeje before moving fully into acting.

She is best known for her roles in television series such as Tinsel and films including Chief Daddy and Battleground, and remains one of the industry’s most recognisable screen personalities.
