Actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has shed more light on her fallout with colleague Eniola Badmus after the latter mocked her hairline on Instagram.
Weeks ago, Eniola had left a comment under Opeyemi’s post asking, “Opeyemi, where is your hairline?” The comment sparked outrage from fans and triggered Opeyemi’s reaction.
The actress expressed hurt over the remark, describing Eniola as hypocritical and insensitive, especially because she had also been mocked in the past over her body before undergoing surgery.
“You are an animal… You think beauty is about physical appearance? You are ignorant,” Opeyemi wrote in response.
Although Eniola later apologised and claimed it was a joke, Opeyemi was not having it. She deleted both the comment and the apology, calling it fake and gaslighting. She further stressed that she and Eniola were not close and had never shared any personal bond that could allow for such banter.
In a follow-up video, Opeyemi insisted that they are not friends and have never had the kind of relationship that permits jokes about physical appearance.
Speaking in an interview with Oyinmomo TV, Opeyemi stated that Eniola has never liked or celebrated her on social media, and she has never done the same. She recalled a brief encounter with the Omo Ghetto actress at the candlelight ceremony for late actor Murphy Afolabi, where they only exchanged greetings.
“We know ourselves; we might not talk on phones, we know those liking our comments, and we know ourselves liking and commenting on each other’s posts. Since the day I opened my social media post, you’ve never liked my post or celebrated me, and I’ve never done the same to you, and we are not enemies. May Murphy Afolabi rest in peace,” she said.
“When he passed, I went to his candlelight vigil and saw Eniola, whom we greeted each other, but this is social media, and Eniola knows how it works. You said my hair is balding, meanwhile, almost a week before the video I made, social media bad belles have been making bad comments, and I don’t fight people or correct people as long as it didn’t deduct money from my account. You now, went under my comment and said ‘Opeyemi, where is your hairline?’ I wasn’t pained by the comment honestly until people went under her comment to mock me, see honestly we all see each other’s comments, forget that ‘somebody is too busy’, no one is too busy.”
Opeyemi also opened up about why she stayed away from Nollywood for over a decade. She said she blocked all her industry colleagues because she didn’t want to risk her marriage ending in divorce like some of her peers.
“I was off the scene for more than ten years. I held my marriage in high esteem, so I blocked everybody’s contact in the industry. I didn’t want my own to be like that,” she said.
Now based in London with her husband Olayiwola Abdulwakilu and their two sons, Opeyemi explained that she is gradually returning to the entertainment scene after putting her family first.
“I have two boys… I’ve given them enough… they should now allow me to also carve my own career,” she added.
