Freedom Park, the artistic and cultural centre on Lagos Island, has paid a touching tribute to its programmes director Raymond Browne, who died on Tuesday night after watching the Arsenal vs PSG Champions League semi-final match.

Mr Browne, widely known as DJ RayBee, was an integral figure at Freedom Park and a beloved personality in the Nigerian creative arts community. In a heartfelt message shared on Wednesday, the management of Freedom Park described him as more than a colleague, calling him a mentor, friend, and the “heartbeat” of the centre’s many events.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we at Freedom Park mourn the passing of our dear brother and friend, Raymond Bola Browne, who left us on the night of April 29th, 2025,” the tribute written by Freedom Park CEO Theo Lawson began.

Highlighting his multifaceted contributions, Mr Lawson praised Browne for his roles as a DJ, MC, and event curator, emphasising the infectious energy, unwavering dedication, and community spirit he brought to every endeavour. “Raymond gave of himself fully—his time, his talent, his warmth,” the message read.

Browne’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a sense of community was also celebrated. “He nurtured dreams, uplifted voices, and believed in the power of community,” the tribute noted.

Survived by his son, siblings and a legion of friends and admirers, Browne’s passing has left a significant void. The tribute acknowledged the profound impact he had on countless lives, saying, “To know Raymond was to be welcomed, encouraged, and inspired.”

While expressing deep grief, the management also celebrated Browne’s remarkable legacy. “Even in our grief, we celebrate a life lived fully, a legacy built with love, and a soul that remains forever a part of our story,” the statement added.
