Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has spoken about the high cost of diesel and how it is affecting his businesses.
In a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, Afolayan said fuel used to power his facilities now costs about N11 million every four to five weeks.
“I’ve been sad because I can’t cope with the N1,500 per litre of diesel. In one of the businesses that we run, the KAP Village, we spend about N11m in four or five weeks on diesel. And we have solar power, but we’re still spending about N11m,” he said.
He added that his businesses have been buying diesel on credit to stay running.
“The diesel we’ve been buying, we’ve been buying on credit. When we make small money, we find a way to pay. Sometimes it takes two months to even pay down and then get another one on credit. But now from about N1,000 or N995 to N1,500, it’s not sustainable,” he said.
Afolayan appealed for support to improve his solar power setup: “If you can come to our aid, I’ll really appreciate.”
The rise in fuel prices follows recent adjustments by major suppliers, with petrol now selling for over N1,000 per litre and diesel around N1,620 per litre, affecting businesses and individuals nationwide.
KAP Film Village and Resort, located in Igbojaye, Oyo State, is Afolayan’s creative hub and resort. Spread across more than 60 acres, it hosts film productions, training programmes and cultural experiences.
The village has modern amenities and has supported projects including Netflix titles like Aníkúlápó and Ijogbon.
Since its launch in 2025, it has also offered filmmaking residencies and youth training in partnership with the Oyo State Government, though infrastructure and power costs remain a challenge.
