Minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy Wale Edun made a public appearance in Abuja on Sunday after days of speculation about his health and whereabouts.

Minister Edun was seen at Fraser Suites, Abuja, where he attended a meeting with a Qatari delegation.

According to The Nation, the minister walked into the venue on Sunday afternoon and later left in the company of the minister of industry, trade and investment, Jumoke Oduwole, after about an hour of closed-door discussions with the visitors.

His appearance followed reports suggesting that he had travelled to the United Kingdom for medical reasons.

The presidency had earlier said the minister was “indisposed.”

A video shared by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on X showed Edun dressed in Agbada during the meeting.

Earlier in the week, a video posted by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Tinubu, showed Edun visiting the O’DA Art Gallery booth at the 1-54 London Art Fair at Somerset House on Wednesday.

Mr Onanuga said the minister was on an officially approved short rest in the United Kingdom.

Speculations about Edun’s health had surfaced after his absence from the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., where Central Bank governor Olayemi Cardoso led Nigeria’s delegation.

Appointed on August 28, 2023, Wale Edun has been part of Tinubu’s economic reform team, overseeing fiscal policy, foreign investment initiatives and efforts to stabilise the naira.

He previously served as Lagos State commissioner for finance between 1999 and 2004.
