Singer Waje has revealed that she was the female voice behind defunct music duo P-Square’s 2007 hit song ‘Do Me’, adding that she did not receive any financial reward for her contribution.
Speaking on the HonestBunch Podcast with Daddy Freeze, the 45-year-old said, “I didn’t earn a dime from P-Square’s ‘Do Me’.”
Waje, who delivered the popular chorus, explained that she was not officially credited or featured by name on the song.
“Imagine being in Onitsha market and you start telling people, that’s my voice every time ‘Do Me’ is played and they are looking at you like who are you. They didn’t believe me,” she said.
The singer, whose real name is Aituaje Iruobe, gained attention in the mid-2000s after her vocal rendition on ‘Do Me’ became a nationwide anthem.
However, she has previously said she was not included in the video shoot for the song because she did not have a passport at the time.
‘Do Me’ was one of the hit tracks on P-Square’s third studio album, Game Over.
The group, made up of twin brothers Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye, dominated the African music scene in the 2000s with chart-topping hits before parting ways in 2016 due to personal and managerial disagreements.
The duo reunited briefly in 2021 but are currently pursuing solo careers again.
