Senator representing Kogi Central Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has warned the public about a viral video that shows her promoting an investment scheme.
In a statement shared on Sunday, the lawmaker said the video was altered and does not represent her.
According to her, the clip was taken from a past interview she granted to television journalist Seun Okinbaloye and later edited to promote an investment platform.
“Although the video looks like me and even sounds like me, it is not real. It is fabricated and misleading content created to scam members of the public,” she said.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said she has no link with the platform shown in the video and urged people to ignore the clip.
She also asked members of the public not to engage with any investment offer connected to the video.
The senator appealed to people to report any social media page hosting the content so it can be removed.
“Please stay vigilant, stay safe, and be guarded against online scams,” she added.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s warning comes as cases of online fraud involving edited videos of public figures continue to appear on social media.
