Veteran music producer Femi Lasode dies at 70

Veteran music producer, playwright and filmmaker Obafemi “Femi” Lasode is dead.

He died on Friday, July 25, at the age of 69.

His death was announced by former president of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Tee Mac Omatshola.

“Obafemi Lasode (born 4 December 1955)… died today. My condolences to all. Respectfully Dr. Tee Mac,” the flutist wrote in a message.

According to Tee Mac, a close family member notified him that Lasode died in the early hours of Friday after a prolonged illness.

Femi Lasode was best known for producing and directing the 1997 film Sango, which gained international recognition and was selected to open the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Film Festival in 2002.

The Ogun State indigene, who was born in Port Harcourt, founded Afrika ’n Vogue/Even-Ezra Studios in the mid-1990s. He was also a songwriter and social commentator.

Lasode earned a degree in Business Administration and a master’s in Communication Arts from Brooklyn College, City University of New York.
