Minister of Works David Umahi has reunited with his primary school classmates, 49 years after they completed their studies at Umunaga Community School, Uburu, Ebonyi State.
The reunion was shared on Facebook on Tuesday by Francis Nwaze, former spokesperson to Minister Umahi.
Members of the Class of 1976, many of whom had not seen one another since leaving the school, gathered to reconnect.
In a post on Wednesday, Umahi told his classmates, “I want to bless you and I want to thank God. Very brainy people. This our set we must change the world.”
He encouraged them to work hard and rely on God.
“Look up to God and work hard. The heart of the king is at the palm of the Lord. He does it the way he wants. So, when no man gives to you, it’s because it’s not the will of God.”
He also joked about their age as they marked the milestone.
“The way we’re seeing ourselves, we’re still looking as fresh as we can, so nobody will agree that anybody here is 60 years, because God has given us good health and good life.”
Nearly five decades after they parted ways as children, the group returned as adults with careers and families.
David Umahi, who studied engineering before going into business and politics, has held several public offices.
He served as governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023 before being appointed minister of works.
The reunion became a moment of reflection for the minister and his classmates as they revisited shared memories and the long path from their early years in Uburu to the present.
