Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has renamed the Centre for Qur’anic Science at Kaduna State University after the late Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who died on November 27.

A statement issued by the chief press secretary, Ibraheem Musa, said the governor announced the decision at the Maulid celebration of Fityanul Islam.

According to the statement, the centre will now be known as the Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Centre of Excellence for Qur’anic Sciences and Memorisation.

The statement recalled that the governor had earlier promised to immortalise the late cleric during a condolence visit to his family in Bauchi, where he led a 30 member delegation.

It added that the governor also pledged to establish a foundation to promote inter religious harmony, a value associated with the cleric during his lifetime.

Speaking at the Maulid celebration in Zaria, the governor urged Muslims to remain united in devotion and to “uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad(SAW), whose message transcends boundaries.”

The statement said the governor commended the leadership of Fityanul Islam “for their steadfast dedication to peacebuilding and social cohesion. I also appreciate their prayers and support for our administration and the development of Kaduna State.”

Governor Uba Sani also reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive and people centred governance in Kaduna State, according to the statement.

It added that the governor disclosed he regularly consults Sheikh Bashir Dahiru, one of the late cleric’s sons, on issues relating to Islam and leadership.

He said Sheikh Bashir has emphasised that effective leadership is rooted in justice, noting that peace thrives where there is justice and equity.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi has been honoured by public institutions since his death.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier renamed the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State, after the cleric in recognition of his contributions to religious scholarship and society.
