United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has launched a digital instant account opening platform that allows customers in Africa and the diaspora to open bank accounts online without paperwork or visiting a branch.

The platform enables users to complete the account opening process digitally, from document upload to Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, and receive an account number instantly.

It supports Naira and Diaspora accounts and offers multiple language options.

UBA said the platform complies with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), providing data protection for customers within and outside Nigeria.

According to the bank, customers can access the platform through web-enabled devices, including mobile phones, tablets and computers.

The process involves entering a Bank Verification Number (BVN), completing facial verification, confirming a one-time password, providing personal details, uploading required documents and adding a digital signature.

Speaking on the launch, Shamsideen Fashola, Group Head, Retail and Digital Banking, said the platform aligns with the bank’s goal of expanding access to financial services through technology.

“At UBA, we are committed to redefining the customer experience through innovation and simplicity. Our new Instant Account Opening platform removes traditional barriers and makes it easy for anyone, whether on the continent or in the diaspora, to open an account in minutes,” he said.

Fashola added that the platform combines convenience, compliance and speed in a single digital solution.

Also commenting, Alero Ladipo, Group Head, Brand, Marketing and Corporate Communication, said the platform responds to customer demand for faster and compliant banking services.

“We understand that customers expect speed, convenience, and compliance without compromise. With this platform, we have combined digital onboarding with privacy and regulatory standards to deliver a seamless account opening experience,” she said.

UBA operates in 20 African countries, as well as the United Kingdom, the United States, France and the United Arab Emirates, providing retail, commercial and institutional banking services across its markets.
