Toyin Lawani defends Seyi Tinubu amid online criticism

Fashion designer Toyin Lawani has spoken out in support of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, following criticism directed at him on social media.

Toyin, in a post on Instagram on Monday, said Seyi supported her financially during a difficult medical period when she had already spent over N100 million on surgeries.

She wrote, “My heart is actually sad and heavy this morning,
Reading all sort of nasty things about @seyitinubu online, from people that don’t even know him or how kind he his, to even random strangers, I remember how he helped me when I was in the hospital and needed more surgeries, which I have already spent over 100m in hospital then, No questions asked, he literally just sent someone to me 🙏

“Godbless you I still can’t forget the selfless help and since then haven’t even had a convo or seen him with my two eyes.
How do you All still expect him to help anyone anymore ???
I was planning to Reach out to @seyitinubu this year to sponsor the king of fashion to go and Represent Nigeria @themetgalaofficial this year, the theme this year is About Arts and who does arts better than Tiannah ??
Nigerian creatives should be able to shine on these platforms yearly, but because of the cost implications,
Some can’t, some people love helping without drawing attention to themselves, and when situations like this Arise it can stop them from helping the right people, I beg ooo this year, King of fashion must represent Nigeria at The Metgala.”

Her defence comes amid an online dispute involving social media personalities VeryDarkMan and King Mitchy.

The controversy began after King Mitchy claimed she renovated a school in Delta State and said part of the funding came from Seyi Tinubu. VeryDarkMan questioned the claim and suggested it was politically motivated. He also accused her of inappropriate conduct involving the president’s son.

The exchange escalated on social media, with accusations and counteraccusations.

In response, Seyi Tinubu released a statement denying any wrongdoing. He said his interaction with King Mitchy was limited to a public donation to support her non-governmental organisation and that there was no private arrangement or impropriety. He described the allegations as false and said he would not be bullied by unfounded claims.
