Actress Toyin Abraham has responded to criticism over a viral video showing her kneeling to greet business couple Razaq Okoya and Shade Okoya.

Toyin attended the 70th birthday celebration of Debola Lagos’ father, where she was seen kneeling to greet the couple.

The gesture sparked reactions online, with one netizen writing, “I’m a fan of Aunty Toyin Abraham but this her unnecessary kneeling down and greeting is becoming too much and looking like an eye service now. It’s ok to respect elders and cultures but those women she keep kneeling for are not so older than her.

“Aunty Toyin, you need to start packaging yourself now. That’s why they keep disrespecting you. They are not more than you, they are not bigger than you. Stop belittling yourself for them.”

In response on X on Saturday, the 43-year-old said, “I won’t stop kneeling to people who values and deserves it my darling, I will continue to go on my both knees to greet people who values and deserves it no matter the status🙏🙏🙏”

She also described herself as a true Omoluabi who will always uphold and value her culture.

“As a true Omoluabi, I will always uphold our values and culture.

“Happy weekend, to my lovely TOYINTITANS”.”

This is not the first time the actress has faced criticism for the gesture. Last month, she attempted to kneel while greeting fellow actress Funke Akindele at the premiere of a film by Iyabo Ojo. The moment drew mixed reactions online, with some fans saying she should not have knelt, while others defended her for respecting Yoruba culture.

The actress, known for films such as Alakada, Ijakumo and Oversabi Aunty.
