Gospel artiste Tosin Bee has addressed online backlash after being wrongly linked to a lawyer involved in the child custody proceedings between Afrobeats singer Davido and his estranged partner Sophia Momodu.
The misunderstanding followed a now deleted Instagram post by Davido, who had earlier expressed anger over events during court proceedings at the Lagos State High Court concerning the custody of his daughter, Imade Adeleke.
After reposting a message from Tosin Bee on his Instagram story, Davido appeared to assume the gospel singer was related to a lawyer he had criticised following the hearing. The post drew backlash online, with some users directing attacks at Tosin Bee before the situation became clear.
Reacting to the development on Instagram on Saturday, Tosin Bee described the incident as a case of mistaken identity.
“Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made. As a matter of fact, my mum went to be with the Lord eight years ago.
“I guess this is a case of mistaken identity. So sorry you had to deal with this, but my prayers are with you. I love you brother,” he wrote.
His response shifted online conversations, with several users calling for an end to the harassment directed at the gospel singer.
The controversy followed an earlier Instagram post by Davido in which he criticised a lawyer involved in the custody proceedings, accusing the lawyer of making insensitive remarks during cross examination.
Late Friday, Davido announced on X that he would withdraw the custody case, stating that he never sought full custody of his daughter.
“I never asked for full custody. I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade. There is nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
He added, “I’ve decided to drop the case because … until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!
“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love!”
Davido had earlier filed an originating motion dated April 17, 2024 seeking joint custody or unrestricted access to his daughter, stating in a supporting affidavit that he had remained actively involved in her upbringing and education.
