Tope Alabi recounts failed relationships before marriage

Gospel singer Tope Alabi has opened up about the failed relationships she experienced before getting married.

In a video shared on Instagram, the Logan Ti Ode crooner said she faced a strange pattern whenever she wanted to introduce her suitors to her parents.

She said, “When I became an adult and it was getting to a stage that I needed to take men to meet my parents, something strange always came up. The men would tell me they needed to go pray about it and afterward they would no longer reach out to me.”

The 54-year-old said some of the men claimed they received warnings from prophets not to marry her.

She added, “One of our intermediaries at a time told me that one of the men had gone to meet prophets who told him I was not okay to be married to. I can count like four men that stylishly left me.”

Tope also recalled meeting a man through her workplace who expressed interest in her. But before he could complete the introduction, her father had already given her hand in marriage to another man.

She said, “After he told my parents he was going to come for proper introduction, we stopped seeing each other. We didn’t need him to come again because my father had given out my hand in marriage before he travelled.”

Tope Alabi is married to Soji Alabi, who doubles as her music producer.

The couple have been married for over two decades and are blessed with three children.

Born on October 27, 1970, the singer hails from Ogun State but was raised in Lagos.

She began her career in theatre before switching to gospel music and has composed over 350 soundtracks for Nigerian movies.
