Gospel musicians Tope Alabi, Nathaniel Bassey and Dunsin Oyekan have expressed grief over the death of fellow gospel singer and band leader Bolaji Olarewaju, popularly known as Big Bolaji or Big B.
The ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) died on Easter Saturday, after a brief illness.
He was 50 years old.
A statement released by his family reads: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bolaji Olarewaju, affectionately known as ‘Big B,’ a cherished father, husband, brother, and an esteemed figure in both the church community, an ordained Pastor in the RCCG and a giant in the music industry and our community.
“Bolaji left us on Easter Saturday, 19th April 2025, after a brief illness. His departure leaves a void in our hearts that cannot be filled.”
Tope Alabi shared a photo of the late singer on Instagram with the caption, “Bolaji Olanrewaju (Big B), you were an amazing person, and your absence will be deeply felt.
“Rest well in the loving bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Farewell, beloved brother.”
Nathaniel Bassey also posted a tribute on Instagram, writing, “Not the kind of news I want to hear or share. Big B, this is hard to take in. You were a GOOD MAN. Always suing for Peace.
“A leader. Rest in ABBA’s embrace. Prayers of comfort and strength for the family and friends. We draw strength from the truth that You are in CHRIST. It is well.”
Reacting to the news, Dunsin Oyekan wrote: “Big B!!!! To think we chatted yesterday and today you are gone. Very Good man, really good man. Rest in God’s love and peace. You will be missed. Kai.”
Other gospel figures like Woli Agba and Woli Arole have also paid tribute to the late singer.
