Gospel singer Tope Alabi has raised her voice against the rising wave of insecurity in Nigeria, using social media to make a heartfelt plea for peace.
On Thursday, she shared an old music video on Instagram, addressing war and insecurity, captioning it: “The News about the killings has been distressing and concerning. But we believe Nigeria is God’s land and things will come in order. We say No to Christian Genocide, No to Killings and Kidnappings. ‘Have mercy on your people, Jesus’.”
Her message comes amid deadly attacks across Kwara, Kebbi, and Niger States.
Gunmen stormed a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara, killing two worshippers and abducting the pastor and others. In Maga, Kebbi, 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped from a boarding school, with the vice-principal killed during the raid. St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger also suffered a deadly abduction, with several children and staff taken.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) condemned the attacks, calling them “senseless and unacceptable,” and urged Nigerians to support security efforts. The Catholic Bishop Bulus described the violence as “part of an escalating wave,” noting that victims are left with nowhere to hide.
Schools in several Kwara districts have been closed as a precaution. Critics argue that government responses remain largely reactive, while Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) called for stronger preventive measures, especially in schools.
