Tonye Princewill appointed traditional chief in Rivers

Tonye Princewill

Former governorship candidate in Rivers State Tonye Princewill has been installed as the new Polo Dabo of Da Ogo group of houses in the Kalabari Kingdom.

Princewill, son of the late Amanyanabo of Kalabari Kingdom, King Theophilus Princewill, Amachree XI, was selected as the sixth head of the Da Ogo Elebabene group of houses.

He succeeds his father, who was the fifth head before ascending the throne as Amanyanabo.

The appointment was confirmed by the acting head of the family, Akodu Princewill, who said the decision followed nomination by a majority of chiefs.

Historically, the Da Ogo Polo chieftaincy leads the Elebabene group of houses, which has produced four of the seven kings after King Kariboye Princewill Amachree IV.

Mujahid Dokubo, Amanyanabo of the Source and a member of the Da Ogo family, welcomed the development, saying the people now have leadership they can rally around.

In his acceptance speech, Princewill stressed unity, culture and humility in leadership.

He promised to impact the lives of the people positively and pledged support for the current Regent.

“Stability is a key ingredient for development, and our people need development badly,” he said.
