Transcorp Hotels Plc has announced the appointment of Dr Awele Elumelu, wife of Transcorp Group chair Tony Elumelu, as chair of its Board of Directors, with effect from January 1, 2026.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement filed on Tuesday, on the Nigerian Exchange.
The statement was signed by the Group Company Secretary, Atinuke Kolade.
According to the filing, the appointment is part of the company’s plans to strengthen board leadership and align its governance structure with its long term strategy in Nigeria’s hospitality sector.
Dr Elumelu currently serves as chair of Avon Healthcare Limited and Avon Medical Practice.
She has worked across healthcare, insurance, corporate governance and philanthropy.
She will succeed Emmanuel Nnorom, who is set to retire as chair on the same date.

Awele Elumelu is a medical doctor with an MBBS degree from the University of Benin.
She has practiced in Nigeria and the United Kingdom and has undertaken executive education programmes at Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland and the London School of Economics.
She is also chair of Heirs Insurance Brokers and a founding director of Heirs Holdings Limited, an investment company with interests in financial services, power, energy and hospitality.
Dr Elumelu is a trustee and co founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which supports young African entrepreneurs.
The foundation has provided seed capital, training and mentorship to more than 24,000 beneficiaries across Africa.
Transcorp Hotels Plc is the hospitality subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc.
