For the Family”
Mr. Ogbue died on Wednesday.
The cause of his death was not disclosed.
United Bank for Africa (UBA) also released a statement mourning him.
The bank said Ogbue joined its board in 2005 as a non-executive director, became chairman in 2011 and retired in 2013.
The statement described him as a “revered boardroom statesman and distinguished administrator” who provided steady leadership during a period of transformation and reinforced corporate governance, accountability and sustainability.
According to UBA, Israel Ogbue was born in Onicha-Olona, Delta State and began his career in the federal civil service before studying in the United Kingdom.
He later rose to senior management at the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria (NICON) until his retirement in 1988 and held appointments on several boards, including UBA.
The bank added that he was a devoted family patriarch who attributed his longevity to God’s grace and encouraged younger generations to pursue ambition with moderation and remain steadfast in adversity.
“UBA Group extends its heartfelt condolences to his children, grandchildren, extended family, friends and associates,” the statement read.
“We celebrate a life of service, wisdom and impact, and honour his contributions to UBA and Nigeria’s corporate landscape. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.”
UBA said funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
