Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Tony Elumelu, has caught the attention of social media users after responding humorously to a fan who jokingly asked to be adopted into his family.
The interaction began on X (formerly Twitter) when a user named Stacy posed a reflective question: “At your age, what is the perfect gift?” In response, another user identified as Banana replied, “Adoption documents to Tony Elumelu’s family,” sparking laughter among many.
Amused by the banter, Elumelu responded: “Looool. With 7 children, can I add more?”
Although his reply left many wondering whether he was open to the idea or simply joking, Banana seized the opportunity to escalate the humour. He promptly edited his profile, adding “Elumelu” to his name and declaring himself the billionaire’s “8th child.”

“I’ve changed my bio to Elumelu’s 8th pikin…. I’ve considered myself adopted.”
The exchange quickly went viral, with other users joining in to tag Elumelu and offer their own playful petitions for adoption.
