Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Tony Elumelu, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo and singer Timi Dakolo on Wednesday paid tribute at a memorial service held in honour of six United Capital staff members who died in the September 16 fire at Afriland Towers, Lagos.

The service, held at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, brought together regulators, industry leaders, clients, partners, family members and friends of the deceased.

United Capital Group organised the memorial, which was also streamed live with additional viewing centres in Abuja and Port Harcourt.

Opening the event, group CEO Peter Ashade led a moment of silence and described the loss as heavy for the organisation.

He shared personal recollections of each of the deceased and assured their families of continued support.

Mr Elumelu, who is also the chairman of Heirs Holdings, expressed deep sorrow, saying the tragedy had shaken both United Capital and Heirs Holdings.

He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and affirmed the unity of both organisations in mourning.

Pastor Ituah Ighodalo delivered a message of hope, urging the gathering to draw strength despite the grief.

He encouraged families and colleagues to focus on the impact and memories of the departed.

The service concluded with a performance by Dakolo, whose rendition moved the hall to solemn reflection.

Tributes also came from colleagues, friends and family members who spoke about the lives and legacies of the six late staff.

In a statement, United Capital said that although the pain of their passing remains, their contributions will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew them.
