Tony Elumelu honoured with 2025 Appeal of Conscience Award

Chairman of Heirs Holdings and United Bank for Africa (UBA) Tony Elumelu has been awarded the 2025 Appeal of Conscience Award at the foundation’s 60th annual gala in New York.

Mr Elumelu’s wife, Awele, received the award on his behalf at the event held on Tuesday night, at the Waldorf Astoria, New York.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Awele wrote, “Last night, I received the 2025 Appeal of Conscience Award at their 60th Annual Gala in New York on behalf of my husband, @tonyoelumelu.

“It was a proud moment, knowing how deeply his work continues to touch lives across Africa through the incredible work of the @tonyelumelufoundation, and the impact of the @heirsholdings Group. Such a beautiful reminder of the impact he has made, and a truly special moment for our family and our Group.”

Elumelu, who is also the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, was honoured alongside Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York.

The Appeal of Conscience Foundation said the award recognises global leaders for promoting peace, religious freedom and human rights.

Through the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Elumelu has committed over USD 100 million in seed capital, mentorship and training to more than 24,000 African entrepreneurs from all 54 African countries.
