Journalist, poet and spoken word artist Tofarati Ige, popularly known as Grand Tycoon, has been named among the 50 African personalities and brands recognised for mastering the art of visibility in 2025.
The list celebrates individuals and brands across the continent noted for influence, relevance and sustained public engagement.
Ige, a lifestyle editor, has built a career spanning journalism, literature and live performance. In 2025, he featured at several cultural and entertainment events, including comedy shows and creative showcases. He is the author of books such as Town Crier and Oriki, which explore African storytelling traditions and contemporary themes.
Reacting to the recognition, Ige said, “It reminds me that visibility, when rooted in purpose, becomes responsibility. I see this recognition not as a destination, but as a call to do more — tell truer stories, amplify African voices, and build platforms where culture, creativity and truth can thrive.”
He added that his focus in 2026 would be on expanding his storytelling work across Africa and creating platforms that support emerging creatives.
The 2025 list features leading African figures from music, film, faith, literature and media. Those named include Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Funke Akindele, Ayra Starr, Joshua Selman, Nathaniel Bassey, Bimbo Ademoye and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
For several of the musicians listed, 2025 was a strong year commercially. Nigerian artistes continued to record high streaming numbers locally and internationally. Projects by Wizkid, Davido and Asake ranked among the most streamed releases during the year, reinforcing their visibility and reach.
Davido’s influence continues to extend beyond music through brand partnerships and consistent global presence, while Asake has remained one of the most streamed Nigerian artistes of recent years.
