President Bola Tinubu arrived in Lagos early Friday after a two-day visit to the United Kingdom.
The president and his wife Oluremi Tinubu landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
They were received by Lagos State deputy governor Femi Hamzat, chief of staff to the president Femi Gbajabiamila, wife of the Lagos State governor Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and party members.
President Tinubu is expected to join Muslim faithful later on Friday for Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Dodan Barracks prayer ground.
In his message, the president urged Muslims to reflect on the lessons of Ramadan.
“We have a lot to draw from the lessons of Ramadan, especially at a time like this. We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness and compassion beyond this period,” he said.
Before returning to Nigeria, Tinubu met with UK prime minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street.
Both countries agreed on a deal valued at £746 million to refurbish two ports in Lagos.
The president said the visit helped to strengthen relations between both countries.
“We cannot forget the institutional development we have enjoyed over the years,” he said, adding that discussions covered trade, the economy, climate change and security.
Tinubu and his wife were also hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.
At the event, Tinubu said Nigeria and the UK share common goals.
“Our two nations share a vision of progress. Today, we continue that journey, committed to building a future rooted in partnership and common values,” he said.
The visit took place from March 18 to 19 and marked the first visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years.
