President Bola Tinubu will visit Kano on Friday to condole with the government and people of the state as well as the family of the late Aminu Dantata.

This was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson to Governor Abba Yusuf, Sunusi Bature.

According to the statement, the visit is seen as a show of national unity and respect for the people of Kano and the legacy of the late businessman.

Governor Yusuf called on residents to welcome the president warmly and in an orderly manner, in line with the state’s tradition of hospitality and respect for leaders.

The president’s visit comes weeks after the death of businessman and elder statesman Aminu Dantata, who died on June 28 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

He was the last surviving child of Alhassan Dantata and uncle to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

Dantata was a prominent businessman with investments in agriculture, real estate, construction and manufacturing.

He was also widely known for his charitable work, including a N1.5 billion donation last year to flood victims in Maiduguri.

Born in 1931 in Kano, he was the chancellor of Al-Qalam University.

He began his career as a produce buyer at 18 in the family business, Alhassan Dantata and Sons Limited, where he eventually became chairman and managing director.

In public service, he was elected a member of the Northern House of Assembly in 1966 and served as a commissioner in the Kano State Government from 1967 to 1973.

He was also a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee for the 1979 Constitution.

Dantata received multiple honourary degrees and was widely regarded as a significant figure in Nigeria’s economic and social development.
