Tinubu to transform NIPSS into global centre by 2030 – Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has said President Bola Tinubu plans to transform the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) into a digital and financially stable global centre of excellence by 2030.

Mr Shettima made the statement on Saturday while representing the president at the graduation ceremony of Senior Executive Course 47 of the institute in Kuru, Plateau State.

He described the senior executive course as an investment in future leadership and said the institute plays a key role in shaping national policy and development.

“President Bola Tinubu has been unequivocal in his commitment to supporting NIPSS in its transformation agenda.

“This is particularly in its ambition to become a digitally driven, financially stable, and globally recognised centre of excellence by 2030.

“We recognise the Institute’s critical role in shaping national policy and in building the leadership capacity required to navigate an increasingly complex world,” he said.

The vice president noted that government support for the institute goes beyond funding and infrastructure.

“Our support must therefore go beyond funding, infrastructure, and a conducive research environment.

“It must ensure that NIPSS produces implementation-ready policy papers and that its outputs are fully integrated into national decision-making and execution frameworks.”

Shettima commended the theme of Senior Executive Course 47, “Blue Economy and Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” saying it reflects the close link between development, security, environmental protection and social inclusion.

He added that the strength of the institute’s work lies in its focus on practical and implementable policy.

Shettima said the Tinubu administration takes evidence-based policymaking seriously and has directed relevant ministries, departments and agencies to study the reports and recommendations of the graduands.

He thanked the institute’s director-general Prof Ayo Omotayo and members of staff, and praised Plateau State governor Caleb Mutfwang and residents of the state for maintaining a peaceful environment that supports the institute’s work.

Earlier, Mutfwang commended federal support for the institute and said Nigeria stands to benefit from its research, particularly in addressing security challenges.
