President Bola Tinubu will on Tuesday, November 4, declare open the 2025 All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) organised by the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).

The two-day conference will take place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and is expected to attract over 500 media professionals from within and outside the country.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Eze Anaba, NGE president, and Onuoha Ukeh, general secretary, this year’s conference has the theme: “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.”

The sub-theme, the statement added, will focus on “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.”

The NGE explained that the conference will explore the role of editors in strengthening democracy, promoting unity, and addressing issues threatening national cohesion. It will also discuss strategies and best practices for editors to foster responsible journalism in a diverse nation.

The statement noted that President Tinubu, leaders of opposition political parties, and other stakeholders have consistently highlighted the importance of the media in promoting unity, shared values, dialogue, and understanding amid political, ethnic, religious, and cultural differences.

“In the face of socio-economic challenges, there is a need for unity in diversity, inclusion, and collective purpose, which are vital for national cohesion,” the guild stated.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; other ministers, state governors, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the organised private sector.

Highlights of the event include a keynote address on the conference theme and presentations on key topics such as election disputes and judicial integrity, national reforms, journalism in the age of misinformation and AI, media and national security, and investment opportunities for editors beyond the newsroom.

The guild revealed that this is the second time in 12 years that the conference will be hosted in Abuja.

ANEC, held annually, serves as a platform for editors and media executives to discuss national issues with significant social, economic, and political implications.

“This year’s ANEC aims to inspire responsible and responsive journalism while holding leaders accountable and promoting national development through unity, diversity, and inclusivity,” the statement said.

The 2025 conference comes four months after the guild’s biennial national convention in Enugu State, where new executives were elected.
