President Bola Tinubu is expected to declare open the 21st All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) on Wednesday, November 12, at the State House Conference Centre, Aso Villa, Abuja.
According to a statement by the president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Eze Anaba and general secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the two-day event will draw over 500 editors from across the country.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar and the chairman of Arise News and ThisDay Newspapers, Nduka Obaigbena, will serve as chairmen of the conference, while Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State will deliver the keynote address.
Governors Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa) and Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano) are among those scheduled to attend.
Other expected participants include former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, former presidential aides Onyema Ugochukwu, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, executive secretary of NEITI Dr. Ogbonnaya Orji and deputy chief of staff to the Senate President Ukpe Anietie.
The conference, themed “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” will feature discussions on electoral integrity, democratic values and the media’s role in fostering national unity.
The sub-theme is “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.”
Prof. Awa Kalu, Managing Partner of Awa Kalu & Partners, will address the topic “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics.”
He will be followed by Prof. Sheriff Ibrahim of the University of Abuja, who will speak on “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”
On the second day, November 13, the event will continue at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre.
Former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, will speak on “Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities.”
Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi of Baze University will deliver a paper titled “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and Credibility Gap.”
The guild said an executive session will also hold, where editors will engage government officials, political figures and business leaders.
Corporate partners for the event include Air Peace Airlines, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
