President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday swore in the new chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Aminu Yusuf, along with two commissioners of the agency and five Federal Permanent Secretaries.
The ceremony was conducted shortly before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.
President Tinubu arrived at the Council Chamber at 1:31 p.m.
After citations were read, the permanent secretaries, Abdulkarim Ibrahim, John Ezeamama, Abdul-Sule Garba, Isiaku Mohammed and Ukaire Chigbowu, took their oaths of office and signed the register.
Mr Yusuf was confirmed by the Senate on October 22.
He was sworn in alongside Joseph Kigbu from Nasarawa State and Tonga Bularafa from Yobe State, both confirmed as commissioners.
The NPC is responsible for national censuses, vital registration and demographic data used for development planning.
Tinubu had appointed Yusuf as chairman on October 9, following the approval of the Council of State.
He succeeds Nasir Kwara, who led the commission from 2020.
After the swearing-in, FEC observed a minute’s silence in honour of former Minister of Foreign Affairs Joy Ogwu, who died on October 13, at age 79, before proceeding with its eighth meeting of the year.
